Every Child Matters’ has outcomes, defined for children’s care and learning, which are set out under the following headings:

  • Achieve Economic Well-being

Curriculum

Little Bicks follows the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The EYFS is based around four themes:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development


A Unique Child

  • Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured


Positive Relationships

  • Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.


Enabling Environments

  • The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.


Learning and Development

  • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.

Learning and Development

Within Learning and development it is split into the following six areas:

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

These outcomes concentrate on providing opportunities for the children to become a valued member of the group by learning how to co-operate with others, as well as promoting their self-image and self-esteem.

  • Communication, Language & Literacy

This focuses on developing the children’s ability in literacy as well as to develop their ability to articulate ideas and feelings. This also focuses on making them aware that the written word has meaning.

  • Problem Solving, Numeracy and Reasoning

This covers the areas that develop understanding of number, measurement, patterns and shapes through practical activities.

  • Knowledge & Understanding of the World

This gives opportunities for all children to explore and discover their environment and the people and places that have significance for them. There are a variety of pursuits to stimulate curiosity and observation.

  • Physical Development

This enables the children to develop and practise their fine and gross motor skills, as well as to increase their understanding of how their bodies work.

  • Creative Development

This is where children explore their ideas, feelings and thoughts through a variety of art, music, dance and role play activities.
