About Little Bicks

At Little Bicks we pride ourselves on providing a curriculum which as well as being developmentally appropriate allows ample opportunity for each child to discover and further their personal interests. Our dedicated Early Years Practitioners promote the children’s natural quest for exploration and knowledge which links into the Early Years Foundation Stage. This sets out the following six areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

All our subjects are taught through play in group activities or one to one, as we provide a safe and inviting environment to stimulate the child’s own thirst for knowledge. The activities are a mixture of structured activities, group work, and free play or child directed/initiated activities.

In the morning session the nursery is split into Caterpillars and Butterflies depending on age and ability. This allows us to tailor each room to meet the needs of all our children.

Little Bicks children benefit from interacting with children in their own age group as well as experiencing play sessions with all of the other children. This encourages their social awareness and creates new and exciting friendships that further stimulate their educational development.

The age appropriate groups are as follows:

  • Caterpillars 2-3 years old
  • Butterflies 3-4 years old
  • Bumble Bees Rising Fours class

We introduce the children to a wide range of experiences and materials through topic based learning. Each child is assigned a key worker who observes and records their development in all areas of learning and uses these observations to help progress the child further. At the end of every term, you will have the opportunity to see their Learning Journals which show you the journey that your child is taking through Little Bicks and have a meeting with your child’s key worker.

Jewish Ethos

Although our nursery has a Jewish ethos and teaches and celebrates Jewish values and festivals, we embrace finding out about other cultures to ensure the children learn about and respect, different beliefs and backgrounds.

At Little Bicks nursery there is a Shabbat party every Friday morning with the children rotating being Shabbat Mummy and Shabbat Daddy. The parents of these children will be asked to come in for the party to support their child and enjoy the singing!

Modern day Ivrit is implemented into the daily life of the nursery so that children can begin to grasp key words of the language. There is a weekly Ivrit speaking music session on a Monday morning which is led by 2 Israeli singers. In addition to this there are plenty of opportunities for the children to sing, dance, listen to music and use musical instruments on a daily basis.

Children have daily access to the garden and we provide a variety of equipment and tools for the children to develop their physical skills such as co-ordination and motor skills.

Healthy, well balanced snacks and meals are provided at Little Bicks and prepared freshly on the premises every day. Parents bring in fruit or vegetables each day and depending on the sessions that the children attend, the following is available:

  • Morning session Rolling snack – provided by parents
  • Lunch session Well balanced, tasty lunch
  • Afternoon session Healthy snack, fruit and vegetables

Dietary requirements and allergies are adhered to and all food is Chalav Yisroel.

Through the daily routines children learn how to explore their independence such as learning to put their coats on themselves and core values and respect for those around them are impressed upon the children.
